Cancer as we
know is one of the most deadly diseases which have gravely affected mankind
since its origination. It is one of the most fatal diseases known to man and we
are still finding solutions to eradicate it. Cancer is known medically
as “malignant neoplasm”, is a broad
group of diseases involving unfettered cell progression. In cancer, cells divide and grow
uncontrollably, forming malicious tumors, and invading nearby parts of the
body. The cancer may also spread to more aloof parts of the body through the
lymphatic system or bloodstream. All tumors are not cancerous; benign tumors do
not invade neighboring tissues and do not spread throughout the body. There are
over 200 different known cancers that affect humans.
It is not so simple to understand because researchers
have not been able to find everything about this deadly evil. Its dangerous
effect can be understood with these survey findings:- in 2008 about 12.7
million cancers were diagnosed and in 2010 the case was worst about 7.98
million people died because was cancer. Thus cancer has become a leading cause
of death in the developed world and in developing country it has become a
second leading cause of death. It is
estimated there will be almost 22.2 million new cases diagnosed annually
worldwide by 2030. Cancer is has deep roots in our society because of this
researcher Robert A. Weinberg, “if we lived long enough, sooner or later we all
would get cancer.” Not only in the recent years, cancer has been affecting us
since early ages and we get its record from Circa in Egypt in 1600 BC in which
Edwin Smith Papyrus describes cancer of breast.
As we can see it is prevalent from a long time, it is
important for the 21st century man to shoulder up his responsibility
to fight against cancer. Thus few things are very important among them “cancer
hospital planning” is a must. It is very important for the government as well
as the hospital owners to buckle up for the future problems of cancer for an
effective cancer hospital planning. It is very important for the hospitals to
grow their clinical operations in maximum places, enhance research to eradicate
this evil and educate the masses about the do’s and don’ts of cancer.
The second important need in the field of cancer
eradication is “oncology facility planning”. For this research is must in the
field of oncology. Disease-based cancer research should be promoted and trans
disciplinary research across the field of cancer biology should also be
promoted. The third and most important part is “cancer program development”.
For this purpose there should be a development in scientific programs in Breast
and Brain tumors and also center for cancer drug development should be made.
There should be unconventional efforts in population intervention studies and
primarily a unified cancer training program should be started at every level of
the society.
Thus after analyzing all the aspects of cancer it is
important to look in this matter seriously.
In September 2011, the United
Nations General Assembly held a high-level meeting on non-communicable diseases
to talk about the threats stood to low- and middle-income countries. It can be
noticed from the above arguments and suggestions that it is not easy to tackle
this evil but we have to do something or else the world has to kneel down
before this deadly creature called “cancer”.
